Click for larger image Al Jazeera was launched in 1996 from its base in Doha, Qatar. Originally staffed by many ex-BBC employees following the demise of BBC Arabic in 1996. The 24 hour news channel is aimed at a pan-Arab audience, and is now considered to be the most popular and fairly mainstream.

Click for larger image The channel gained worldwide attention and became a household name, following the September 11 attacks, when it broadcast video statements by Osama bin Laden. In 2006 Al Jazeera launched a global English-language 24 hour station to compete with the likes of CNNi and BBC World

The graphics branding for its news feels fresh and contemporary, abstract graphic shapes and rectangles spin and twist to form a representation of the world.. it's not the usual spinning globes were so used to these days that says "news channel"

The Al Jazeera music package was produced by Largoland and graphics package designed by Velvet Design in Germany, this is what they say about it: "The redesign is based on 2 key notes: worldmatrix and dialectics, through it AlJazeera gains the new acoustical and visual identity on the international level, but combined with the traditional ethincal arabic elements and influence of their culture. The creative team counting 9 broadcast designers and 4 flme artists was led by creative directors Andrea Bednarz and Matthias Zentner."

In 2009 Al Jazeera gained a new on screen identity produced by JL Design for the channel's 13th anniversary.
 
The concept is organic, simple, mature and uses a colour palette of three colours: gold, sea blue and pearl white. The challenge was creating a 'softer' visual style that was suitable for hard news. Gold is the theme for the main news opening titles and breaking news, whilst blue is the dominant colour for other categories - sport, economy, weather etc.
