"This is WRC-TV, Channel FOUR, in Washington DC!" And with that we go into a classic vintage open using Michael Randall's classic NewsCenter theme, with fun early 80s DVE effects.

Not too long after the first clip, the opens were lengthened and revised - the great "WRC-TV Channel FOUR" idents were left in, but the main voiceovers were changed... and best of all, funky music has been added to the beginning of the open, right before the announcer and "NewsCenter" kicks in...

In line with WNBC, WRC's 5:30 news became a lighter, more lifestyle-oriented format, with new anchors.

Can't wait to show you 1 - As these clips show, NewsCenter 4 restructured its news operation around 1981 or so, with new focus to the newscast. NewsCenter 4 at 11 became "an in-depth look at today's news and a first look at tomorrow".

More or less the same as what was used for the NewsCenter 4 5:30 open, but with different music to start it off - including the Channel 4 News logo forming over a space shot of earth...

The pentultimate open to Channel 4 News (the last open would simply update the NBC peacock to the 1986 version and eliminate the presenter talent) dispensed with NewsCenter and shots of washington for a unique Marble look and rotating logo.

WRC, using a nice version of the Novocom/NBC corporate look. The theme is an interesting hybrid of WRC's signature theme and "The Tower", the theme that seems to be favored for many NBC stations using the style.
