The BBC North Region we know today was born in 1968. The news magazine programme was named Look North, not to be confused with the other BBC news magazine from Newcastle called Look North! Early presenters included Barry Chambers and Philip Hayton, with Harry Gration arriving in 1982. These are the titles for the new Leeds edition of Look North. Introduced in 1968.1970s

Look North was given the Sixty Minutes treatment in 1983. It adopted the 'standard' Sixty Minutes regional title sequence and studio. A forerunner of things to come?

With the demise of Sixty Minutes, Look North adopted it's first computer generated titles in 1984.

A couple of years later and more relaxed look to Look North. Gone was desk, in came the sofa. The title sequence was also given an overhaul.
Look North Saturday1987 Michael Cooke continued to host the Saturday teatime regional sports news bulletin through the 1980s. The late Brian Baines read the news headlines on the Saturday programme in addition to his continuity duties.

A new variation of the familiar corporate look was introduced across the BBC English Regions on Monday 16th September 2002. This is how it looked across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Look North - 35 Years Feature25th March 2003
BBC Leeds started broadcasting their own edition of Look North on 25th March 1968. This was their 35th Anniversary item. A film piece was followed by an interview with Brian Baines and the cutting of a cake. Such extravagance!

Monday 27th September 2004 saw BBC Yorkshire broadcast the first edition of Look North from it's new broadcast centre in St Peter's Square. The move was part of the BBC's aim to get closer to the viewers.
