Don't they remind you of the classic 1970s/80s slides? Daytime schools remains the only time to catch slides on BBC2. But with other programmes (such as CBeebies and "The Daily Politics") encroaching further into the morning hours, even this may not be for much longer.

Live snooker coverage is erm...snookered! Actually, this break occurred when the nightly highlights programme, Snooker Extra, failed to start. The programme was played out from Sheffield; eventually the tape is cued up and viewers don't miss any of the action.

Happy Birthday BBC TWO
2004
A full-length trail for BBC TWO's 40th anniversary programme, featuring classic programmes and idents from over four decades.

BBC2 Multi-channel pointers
2005
Newsnight is next on BBC2 but if you don't fancy that...BBC2's latest multi-channel pointers take on a more contemporary feel, and can feature different channel combinations.

BBC2 replaced the previous set of "Now and Next" guides, based around the idents, with new on-screen pointers from May 2005. The theme is a "galaxy" in which the programmes are "planets" and viewers are encourage to see what's out there, enticed with slogans such as "2 Suggests" or "2 Words". The guides are adaptable to suit any audience or time of day. Some are accompanied by the announcer's commentary; others are not.

2 suggests

At last the BBC2 figure breaks free from its enclosed environment, and takes on a canine form to promote Thursday Night comedy. In an updated incarnation of Fluffy Dog, the 2 appears in a series of promos and idents alongside the stars of BBC2's comedy programmes including Catherine Tate, Stephen Fry and John Bird. Three idents also feature the canine 2 and these can be seen here. The campaign aired in July 2005.

Endboard - Absolute Power
Endboard - The Catherine Tate Show
Comedy Promo - Rob Brydon

BBC2 Learning Zone Close
09.09.2005
How many announcers does it take to close the Learning Zone? Not a bad joke but pure fact; no less than three different voices were heard during this junction at 5:59am one Friday morning.

Following on from each other are Peter Offer and Becky Wright, then fast forward through the trails into the ident voiced by Sarah Gentry.

BBC2 Christmas Sting
2005
One of three interstitials accompanying the new Christmas Ident in 2005. Basically a cut-down version of the ident.

As well as these, there were junction pointers in the style of the Christmas animation, with slogans such as "2 Night".

The surprise reappearance of Christmas 2000's ident for the Winter Olympics brought with it another chance to see that year's festive stings. Some of which we didn't capture first time round, so here they are!
