PBS - Public Broadcasting Service is as the name says, America's public broadcasting network. Funded by the state from U.S. taxpayers, also sponsors and private donations.
Founded in 1969, it took over from NET which broadcast in the 50's and 60's.
Today PBS broadcasts many British drama and comedy programmes from BBC and Channel 4 and quality made PBS programmes from WGBH in Boston, WQED in Pittsburgh and WNET in New York to over 300 non-profit affiliates across the States, some of the affiliate stations are in universities.

WGBH Ident1978
WGBH Boston Presents logo that was originally seen at the beginning of their programmes on PBS.
WNET Ident1984
This example is WNET New York's unforgetable "Radar" ident that was used from 1984-1989.
It appeared at the start of programmes until PBS eliminated them in 1993, allowing only program end-boards.
WSJK Ident1984
This very 80's promotional music video appeared in 1988 for PBS's "TV Worth Watching" campaign. It features a brief glimpse of the 1984 PBS ID.
