ITV New Year Promos
Two single-programme promos are featured here.
Bruce Forsyth's Big Night
ITV had just poached Brucie from the BBC and he even uses his age old catchphrase from the Generation Game. Although this is not an obvious identity link, this LWT programme, from 1978 seemed very keen to promote a national image for ITV. The first edition went out on 7 October 1978.
Right clip - The first item in the programme was a song to promote the "ITV Network"
Tomorrow on ITV
Another case for the tough, wise-cracking cockney detective Hazell, played by Nicholas Ball. Created by 'P.B. Yuill', the pen name of creators Gordon Williams and ex-England football manager Terry Venables (we kid you not), the series ran for 2 years from 1978 to 1980 and was produced by Thames Television. The trailer is from 19 March 1978.
ITV Autumn Trail
Highlights to look forward to next weekend!
A promo for a programme shown on 24 September 1978.
Christmas Eve on ITV Promo
"Come home to Christmas on ITV" was ITV's strapline for Christmas 1978 and this promo features three of the channel's Christmas Eve programmes.
Boxing Day on ITV Promos
Two separate promos, presumably from different ITV companies, for ITV's Boxing night film.
Welcome home to ITV
A strike broke out at Thames Television on 6th August 1979. This spread throughout the other ITV companies and all (apart from Channel Television) were on strike by the 10th of August. Transmissions resumed at 5.45pm on 24th October 1979. This is the cheesy way that ITV returned to our screens.
Summer on ITV Promo
A trailer from 10 July 1979.
ITV Sunday Promo
A promo for programmes on 18 March 1979.
Christmas with ITV Promo
321, George and Mildred, The Three Musketeers, Morcambe and Wise, This Is Your Life and Cleo's Christmas....aaah they don't make Christmas TV like that anymore. (Who said "thank goodess for that?!?").
