Good Evening Ulster
1984
From 1979 to 1987, Ulster Television's evening news bulletin was titled Good Evening Ulster. Its first presenter was Gloria Hunniford, who was replaced by another broadcaster destined for national fame - Eamonn Holmes.
Our example comes from June 1983 and features Eamonn himself.

UTV Live At Six
1997
A yellow-tinged look for UTV Live was introduced in January 1997.

Since 1991, UTV have run 30-second news updates during its prime-time schedule to keep viewers informed of local news developments between Live at Six and the post-News at Ten bulletin. This example is voiced by Pamela Ballantine.

A refresh for UTV Live came to coincide with the relaunch of the networked ITV News in March 1999.
Here, Kate Smith presents an afternoon bulletin from the continuity studio. Kate joined UTV in 1983 and was one of the main anchors for Six Tonight, UTV's local evening news programme from 1987 to 1992.

Following the move of ITN's early evening bulletin from 5.40pm to 6.30pm in March 1999; UTV split its hour-long bulletin into two separate programmes: UTV Life, which ran in the 5.30-6.00pm slot and covered features, arts and community reports; with the news and sport dealt with on UTV Live from 6.00pm-6.30pm.

UTV Live Friday Edition

Here, husband and wife Mike Nesbitt and Lynda Bryans present a Friday edition of the 6.00pm bulletin. Lynda joined UTV from BBC Northern Ireland in 1996.

UTV Life had its own presenting and production team separate from UTV Live.
This edition is hosted by regular UTV Life hosts Pamela Ballantine and Frank Mitchell, and also includes a news sting from the UTV newsroom with Paul Clark.

2001
A change in UTV's corporate logo in January 2001 meant a refresh to the opening titles was required; however, the theme music and studio sets remain the same.

Similarly, UTV Life's opening titles and logo are updated, but there's no change to the theme music and studio.
Pamela Ballantine is joined on the sofa by sports presenter Claire McCollum, while Mike Nesbitt trails the 6.00pm bulletin from the newsroom.

One of two promotions coinciding with a new look UTV Live in April 2002.
The trails featured presenting talent and presentation looks down the years as UTV Live approached its 10th anniversary and celebrated the honour of CIPR News Programme of the Year 2002.

With the 2002 rebranding, UTV Life and UTV Live were merged into one hour-long programme, starting at 5.30pm.
A programme intro featuring Mike Nesbitt and Lynda Bryans, and the 6.00pm titles, can be viewed on the left, while an outro with typical Christmassy presenter banter between Mike, Lynda, weather presenter Frank Mitchell and sports editor Adrian Logan is on the right.

The "UTV Life" part of the programme still took up the first half-hour of the slot, continuing with its own presenting team from a sofa area of the studio, before passing over to the newsdesk at 6.00pm.

Lynda Bryans introduces a lunchtime bulletin from November 2003.
Usually, this bulletin would come from the UTV Live studio; however, as it's ready to go to air with coverage of the Northern Ireland Assembly election (see below), Lynda must settle for the continuity studio.

Some clever editing allows UTV to include its own UTV Live team alongside their ITV News colleagues in a trail which promoted the February 2004 relaunch of ITV News.
GMTV Bulletin
2004
Due to a dispute after opting out of GMTV to offer their own coverage of the Combined Loyalist Military Command ceasefire in October 1994, UTV have not provided the Northern Ireland regional news service during ITV's breakfast television service.
Since the mid 2000s, GMTV's NI news bulletins have been contracted out to Macmillan Media. Here, Vicki Hawthorne (later of UTV and now of Sky News) presents.
UTV Election 03
2003
Mike Nesbitt leads UTV's studio coverage of the then-suspended Northern Ireland Assembly election in 2003, joined by UTV Political Editor Ken Reid, and Paul Arthur of the University of Ulster. The theme music heard on these titles was first used in 2001 and is still UTV's choice for its election coverage.
These days, Mike Nesbitt sits in the Assembly chambers as an Ulster Unionist member for Strangford.

Tina Campbell, who began her UTV career as a continuity announcer in 1994, is seconded from UTV Live for the day in the clip on the left. Audra Thomas promotes further election coverage that evening in the clip on the right.

A new logo and a new set of opening titles come into use for UTV Live in October 2004; however, the 2002 set remained in use.

In August 2006, UTV moved its news bulletins from Studio 2 to Studio 1 at its Havelock House base, providing an opportunity to bring in a new studio backdrop. While there's a new sofa for the 5.30pm slot, the 2002 desk lives on for the news and sport!

In January 2009, UTV axed the features element of UTV Live (which had gone back to using the UTV Life name in 2007) in preparation for another refresh to its news service that April.
Here, Paul Clark and Lynda Bryans introduce the 6.00pm bulletin. Lynda would leave UTV Live in June 2010.
UTV Live Tonight

As part of its 2009 refresh, UTV extended its 10.30pm bulletin to a half-hour slot, with the title UTV Live Tonight. The new programme incorporates extended reports on the day's news, a round-up of political machinations at Stormont and updates on business news and tomorrow morning's newspaper front pages.
Its regular presenter is Paul Clark.
