late 1989 saw the graphics updated, now depicting a map of the west country with a Venetian blind effect. The backdrop changed depending on the season, this clip shows the winter nightime set.

HTV News became The West Tonight for a period. The lunchtime bulletin was labelled The West at 12.20.
