Central In-Vision Announcers 1982 - 1987
If you grew up in the Midlands during the 80s, then you'll probably recognise these faces. In-vision continuity was phased out by 1987 replaced by more fashionable computer generated idents.

Stewart White, before BBC Look East, Stuart could be seen in the Midlands informing his audience what's on next.

Left Clip - Ah remember the old "Dial 100 and ask for Freefone..." adverts? Anyway, a brief glimpse of one for the Midlands Electricity Board and a trailer for Highway with Harry Secombe then its onto Hilary Holden who introduces Dr Zhivago. I'm no expert, but im not sure this is her main job...

Gary was one of the main evening announcers at Central and was also the face of Childrens ITV alongside the lovely Debbie Shore. He's now the voice of Channel 4.

Left Clip - From 27.12.1983 This Is Your Life, Mike Yarwood, and The China Syndrome on Christmas Tuesday before Stewart waxes about Cher.

Left - From 8.1.1984 Out of the ads and into Mike, reminding us of various programmes coming up later, before introducing the Bond film "You Only Live Twice". (Note the way Mikes name appears one letter at a time.)

Left clip - Murder By The Book, a Columbo film directed by Steven Spielberg himself! Then Kevan introduces Candid Camera.

Left Clip - An appeal for help from Home For Hospital, a service fron the British Red Cross that helps out older folk when they leave hospital. The scheme is still in operation 25 years on.

Central Next
In 1985 Central introduced a new main ident to proceed programmes made for the ITV Network. In 1985 they also introduced a new style of animated presentation graphics. Various animations were done using 3-dimensional shapes from the Central 'cake' now animate in an out to form the logo.

Some of the idents used the tag line "The One To Watch" . Taglines and slogans were common across US tv stations in the 80s, but Central was probably the only UK station to use it on their idents, and not as part of programme campaigns, which we were more used to.

First Clip - A local advert section for Esprit Automation Ltd in Nottingham and Venus Designer Clothing in Stoke. Esprit still operate in Nottingham although they have relocated, but we could find no trace of Venus Designer Clothing.
