Launch of Southern Television 30/08/1958Southern Television was awarded the South of England franchise by the ITA in 1957. Their first studios were at the old Plaza cinema in Southampton. The first programme was broadcast on 30th August 1958 and was a variety show featuring stars like Gracie Fields, Lionel Blair and Diana Dors.
Southern Goes Colour 19/08/1969In 1967 Southern realised that with the switch to colour, new purpose built studios were going to be needed. These they had built on land reclaimed from the river Itchen at the cost of £2,500,000. They moved into them in on the 19th August 1969.
