This edition is presented by Vyvyan Mackeson and Mike Fuller in the cramped Dover studio.

The orange sunset that appeared in the final scene of the titles had been shot by camera men who were playing about with filters at the end of a long days filming, it was never intended to be used in the titles.

Click for larger image Initially Coast to Coast ran as an hour long programme from 5.30pm which included the ITN News at 5.45 within it. These short titles were used to rejoin the programme at 6.00pm.

Note this South East edition is still presented from the cramped Dover studio but it appears to have been altered after only a few months on air. TVS moved into the Maidstone studios in November.

Click for larger image Set changes too in Southampton. This edition of Coast to Coast comes from 1983 and is presented by Khalid Aziz. It wouldn't be long before he left the programme.

The headlines are read out over the titles by Chrissie Pollard and the top story is about some escaped convicts in Hampshire.

In 1983 the titles were refreshed and a whole set was created featuring even more scenes from the South and South East. The orange sunset at the end of the titles was also retired at this point.

Due to a technical problem the South East edition of Coast to Coast couldn't be broadcast so the whole region saw the programme with Fred and Fern from Southampton on this occassion. Pan regional editions would also be broadcast in the event of a really major news story.

This clip is of the closing moments of this edition. As well as Fred and Fern look out for David Bobin and Liz Wickham at the news desk.

1987
Click for larger image Coast to Coast People was launched in 1987 as a spin-off to the main programme. It was usually broadcast in a weekday lunchtime slot and focused on one long interview with a celebrity or local news maker. Each half of the region had its own edition presented usually by the secondary presenter - Fern Britton in the South and Mike Fuller/Liz Wickham in the South East.

By 1990 Coast to Coast people were using new titles that were completley removed from the style of the main Coast to Coast. The programme was usually recorded in a studio although this edition was recorded on location, in a pub.

Coast to Coast Years (VHS)

To mark the end of the regional news programme two special VHS releases were produced. Essentially the videos were a compilation of the special reports that run during the final days of TVS.
