Jilly Carter joined TSW as an announcer in the early 80s; this is her in action. Features short TSW ident.
Jennifer Gavin1984 A long line of charming Jennifers graced the announcer's hot seat at TSW, but Jennifer Gavin was perhaps the longest serving. She left TSW around 1988 and has not been heard of since. The other Jennifer, Ms Clulow, defected to TVS.
Judi Spiers1985
Perhaps the best-loved TSW personality was Judi Spiers, the South West's resident funnygirl. However, she's fairly straight here as she introduces lunchtime pre-school programmes.
Roger Shaw1985
Roger Shaw was chief announcer on both Westward and TSW. Here he introduces The Price Is Right, with his customary warm manner.
Jeremy Curry1986 You might not remember the face but you'll certainly recognise the voice of Jeremy Curry. He started as a letter reader on TSW's weekly feedback show "Televiews", then moved into the announcer's chair for a time. Jeremy continued as the voice of TSW and Westcountry trails until the mid-1990s. He has now moved to BBC South West.
Ian gets beamed up!1987 At first glance you might think Ian has been put on air by mistake, and that the technicians are looking for the right colour background. Yes, it certainly looks that way. Then suddenly, Ian finds himself beamed up in a flah of white light, as if he is being abducted by aliens!
Which is just as well, because what you're seeing is TSW's intro to the television premiere of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in summer 1987. Ian lived to tell the tale and was back in the hot seat after the film.
Roger Shaw1987
Two clips of Roger on TSW's 1987 IVC set; he first introduces the network television premiere of "Ghostbusters", then he briefs us on the weather to expect before going into Dame Edna's festive special.
David Fitzgerald1988
David Fitzgerald joined TSW around 1986 and soon became established as one of the station's most familiar faces. Here he is in 1988 - the continuity studio would soon become more interesting visually.

It may have been Christmas Day, but business as usual for Ruth Langsford on a suitably-decorated set. The sofa was now a permanent fixture - would it have survived past 1992?
Roger Shaw1989 The Christmas tree is gone so we can now see what the continuity studio looks like in its hybrid stage. At the time, many ITV regions were abandoning in-vision continuity, but for TSW there was simply no other way of doing things and in fact a second IVC set was brought into service for daytime. Meanwhile, this would have been one of Roger's final appearances as he retired by the end of the year.
Mark Seaman1989
Mark Seaman was among the many guest announcers who passed through TSW from time to time. But just what is he up to here? Watch the clip and all will make sense... Note the new daytime continuity set, introduced to tie in with the "Four Seasons" identity.
Ruth Langsford1990
Christmas Day has been and gone but Ruth Langsford keeps the party going on TSW - here she is in the final weekend of 1990. My sincerest apologies for the idiot who hit the pause button mid-announcement...
Dinah Lawley16.02.1991 Dinah Lawley (any relation to Sue?) took her place in the announcer's chair around 1990, and stayed with TSW until their demise. Here she introduces Matthew Kelly's first episode of You Bet! - which coincidentally was shown the same day as BBC1 and BBC2's new identities launched.
Ruth Langsford1992
All weekend viewers experienced picture break-ups and freezes. Was everyone's set on the blink? No - the problem was caused by the weather, as Ruth explains. Later in the year, she introduced a Richard Digance special. And she's keen to point out Richard's connections to the region...
Sally Meen1992 Sally Meen was one of the last faces to join TSW, around 1990. Here she is taking the opportunity to plug Telethon before introducing Graham Kerr.

For TSW's final evening on air, Ruth Langsford joined Ian Stirling on the sofa to help entertain those of us spending New Year's Eve at home. And when those two got together, they unleashed a popular and much-missed double act. Here they are just before "A Day In The Life Of..." at 7:30pm.
Then, it was time. The moment TSW hoped would never come. A few minutes before midnight, Ruth and Ian say goodbye for the last time.
