Newsnight on BBC2 was seven years away in 1973. But the second channel's late news tradition was already well-established, with the late bulletin known as News Extra.
We don't have any titles for News Extra, but here you can see David Holmes close an edition from Summer 1973. And yes, the sound is out of sync with the pictures for some reason.

Until 1986, BBC2 broadcast an early evening five minute news summary with subtitles each weekday. Initially there was no fixed time for this bulletin but by 1984 it had settled down to a slot at around 5.30 and was the first programme of the evening. Here we present a close to a bulletin from 1982.

Corporate looks have come and gone but Newsnight has always managed to keep its own identity. And the latest makeover is no exception - Jeremy Paxman unveiled the new set on 24th June.

On 22nd May 2006, Newsnight's graphics and set were again altered. At first, the set was shared by BBC Breakfast and BBC One's National News. However, they managed to keep it even after 21st April 2008, when the BBC News on BBC One have set changes. The Opening Titles contain the buildings and the moon. These buildings were actually flat. Aside from Jeremy Paxman, there are also other Newsnight Presenters including Martha Kearney, Kirsty Wark and Gavin Esler.

BBC2 Scotland opts out of the final 20 minutes of Newsnight but there is no insert into the title sequence of the main programme as the titles just feature the top Newsnight story.
