BBC World Service Television was rebranded BBC World in 1995. BBC WSTV was considered too lengthy as a brand name, so it was dropped. It was also to conicide with the BBC splitting it's international channel into two - BBC World, News & Current Affairs and BBC Prime - a general entertainment channel.
Both channels are not officially available in the United Kingdom as they are commercial, not funded by the licence fee, instead advertising and subscription.

BBC World studio made use of the extended virtual sets, just like the BBC National news of the time, to make the studio appear much bigger than it actually was, especially on big wide shots.

Newsdesk1995 Tim Sebastian with Newsdesk. The BBC World design by Lambie Nairn features abstract flags made up of common visual components of national flags - stripes, bars and stars, the result is a flexible cohesive corporate identity.

The 'flags' look was designed by Lambie Nairn. LN recommended that the channel idents should share the same look as the news titles.
BBC World News1997
BBC World News with Nick Gowling Saturday August 20th 1997, and BBC One joins BBC World to broadcast some very important Royal news.
BBC News 24 launched 3 months later, which is why BBC One would now of course join BBC News 24
