On 11th August 1999, day became night. For 2 minutes Cornwall witnessed 'totality' the only part of the country able to experience the total eclipse of 1999. The BBC covered the event live with Michael Buerk, Phillipa Forrester and Patrick Moore based at St. Michaels Mount in Cornwall.

Spotlight Eclipse'99 Special
1999 BBC South West's Spotlight provided extensive coverage. These titles were used for that evening's Spotlight; it was preceded by a special version of the BBC1 Balloon symbol.
