Sky News began broadcasting on Sunday 5th February 1989 at 6pm as the first 24 hour news channel for the UK. The first presenters to grace our screens were Penny Smith and Alastair Yates, they were followed an hour later by Bob Friend and Kay Burley. There's no doubt Sky News has changed the face of television news presentation in UK, and has been much copied ever since. It was mocked by many news organisations in its early days, but today has grown to be one of the most respected news channels, gaining the respect of viewers and the industry alike.
