1964
Click for larger image The 1964 results programme is the oldest results show to survive in the BBC archives fully in tact. It was to be Richard Dimbleby's final election night programme as he died the following year. It was also the first election night appearance of Richard's son David, who reported on the Exeter count. The left clip is the start of the programme and the right clip features Robin Day, also making his BBC election night debut, being told not to interrupt quite so often by the then deputy Labour Party leader George Brown.

1983
Click for larger image Apart from David Dimbleby being the presenter, it was all change for BBC's coverage of the 1983 election. The 1979 theme tune was remixed, Peter Snow replaced Bob McKenzie as Bob had passed away in 1981 and the swingometer was replaced by a target board of hits and misses. We present both the overnight coverage and the daytime coverage, and note the very different titles sequence used in each clip.
