This was used as a cross-channel promotion before and just after the launch of BBC Three.

BBC Three Launch2003 BBC Three was launched on 9th February 2003. It took over from BBC Choice as a new Youth channel. Stuart Murphy became famous for running the channel and being the youngest channel controller to launch a new channel at 33. Despite the fact he'd previously run UK Play at the age of 26.
BBC Three decided to adopt their own character for the channel - the 'Blob'. Various Blobs were designed by Stephan Marjoram at Aardman Animations creators of Wallace & Gromit. These included a Mohican Blob, Glasses Bob and Afro Blob who always live in the blue environment with the BBC Three three-dimensional logotype. The actual 'BBC Three' logo was designed by Lambie Nairn (the typeface is Helevetica Neue Black Condensed)

In late 2005 the BBC Three typographic logo which appeared on idents and promos was changed from white to blue. The channel also adopted a new DOG

The News Show2003 The News Show was a half hour news programme for young people. It was axed later in 2003.
BBC Three continues to show 1 minute news headlines updates instead, in the form of "60 Seconds" as seen below
2008 - Present
BBC Three Re-launch2008 On February 12th 2008 the much loved blobs were considered too old fashioned to continue and put to rest, replaced with a BBC Three world of multimedia. This and the following clips are the from the re-launch night, and show a non traditional mix of presentation - idents, invision continuity with Jose Vanders plus viewer contributed videos for other links...
