BBC Knowledge - the BBC's education channel was launched on January 11th 1999. The channel went 24hours a day from 17 November 2001. (Previously BBC Knowledge was available via Digital Terrestrial TV until noon at weekends).
 
After just 3 years on air the channel was permanently closed on March 2nd 2002
