ITV had the League rights so MOTD only appeared on Saturday nights when the FA Cup was taking place so the programme was renamed “Match Of The Day – The Road To Wembley.”

The BBC faced uproar one year when a new arrangement of the theme tune was aired. The BBC received so many complaints, the original was re-instated.
