On 13th February 1989, the ITV network partnered with the Met Office to produce a national forecast, shown after ITV News bulletins. Up until then, regional ITV companies had produced their own forecasts. Powergen (later became Eon, it's parent company) sponsored the weather bulletins. It was the first sponsorship agreement of its kind and after 18 years on, it became the longest sponsorship deal on terrestrial TV. In November 2007 it was confirmed insurance firm Esure will take over the sponsorship in January 2008.
